The Artist - Jan Luyken, 1694
Holland Fine Arts, LLC was founded by Johannes Krane.
Mr. Krane has over 30 years of experience in the art industry. He previously owned a gallery in Los Angeles and Palo Alto, California, and has developed a lifelong passion for art, particularly focusing on 17th-century engravings.
Born and educated in the Netherlands, Johannes possesses a deep understanding of the challenges and strategies involved in managing fine art. His extensive knowledge spans influential art, business administration, and financial management, all backed by a solid educational background in Art History.
The 1694 publication Mirror of Human Activity by Dutch artists Jan and Casper Luiken is a unique work that illustrates 100 contemporary professions, trades, and crafts. It serves as a valuable document for understanding the social history of the Middle Ages, specifically the 17th century, as well as the impact of urban literacy and economics on the development of art.
The city’s true wealth depended on its adventurous merchants and highly skilled artisans, whose guilds carefully maintained strict quality standards for their work 300 years ago. All of our editions are hand-colored in the same 17th Century Dutch tradition.
Holland Fine Arts uses the best art pigments available to hand-color each piece, resulting in what they call a “New Original.” As an accomplished watercolor artist trained in Holland, Johannes Krane specializes in the hand coloring of intaglio pieces. This intricate task requires a high level of skill, and Mr. Krane is well-versed in the 17th-century methods and techniques of color application.
