Barrels have largely receded into the background of our modern world, but in 17th-century Holland, they were used for practically everything. Jan Luyken’s The Barrel Maker was a tradesman whose skills were constantly in demand, whether for aging fine beer, wine, or spirits, or transporting grains or salted meats thousands of miles on a ship.

The Barrel Maker is a single part of Jan Luyken’s sprawling masterwork, The Mirror of Human Activities (Spiegel van het Menselyk Bedryf). Here, the engraving has been reproduced in all its splendor as a limited edition piece for you to display proudly in your home or office. In painstakingly recreating this vision from the Golden Age of Dutch fine art, we used only the finest materials and historically accurate techniques.

“A barrel holds food and wine
It keeps us well and mused”

Our fine art etchings use exclusive handmade paper crafted using techniques dating back to the 14th Century, passed down through generations by Indian artisans. Dried in the sun, this paper is a timeless, creative alternative to ordinary paper.
