At work under a brooding sky, the image of The Carpenter transports us back to Holland in the 1600s. Unconcerned with the bustle of workers, singularly focused on what’s directly in front of him, he raises his hammer and is ready to strike with a skilled and steady hand. This was a time when disciplined craftsmanship enabled a tradesman to leave an indelible mark on the world.

The Carpenter is a single part of Jan Luyken’s sprawling masterwork, The Mirror of Human Activities (Spiegel van het Menselyk Bedryf). Here, the engraving has been reproduced in all its splendor as a limited edition piece for you to display proudly in your home or office. In painstakingly recreating this vision from the Golden Age of Dutch fine art, we used only the finest materials and historically accurate techniques.

“The carpenter builds homes to be safe and fine
To raise a family in our time.”

Our fine art etchings use exclusive handmade paper crafted using techniques dating back to the 14th Century, passed down through generations by Indian artisans. Dried in the sun, this paper is a timeless, creative alternative to ordinary paper.
