Minting a new coin was strenuous – to shape the metal, bend it, and finally engrave it. However, in the eyes of Jan Luyken’s The Coin Maker, there was nothing tedious about the work. Every piece gave him ample opportunity to demonstrate his mastery and the pride he takes in his craft. The details must be perfect, and so they were.

The Coin Maker is a single part of Jan Luyken’s sprawling masterwork, The Mirror of Human Activities (Spiegel van het Menselyk Bedryf). Here, the engraving has been reproduced in all its splendor as a limited edition piece for you to display proudly in your home or office. In painstakingly recreating this vision from the Golden Age of Dutch fine art, we used only the finest materials and historically accurate techniques.
